Meeting Sept. 3, 2023
Attending: Trish, Maggie, Kathryn, Rick, Brad, Scotty, Jean, Chuck.
Minutes:
Our first meeting at Inland Oasis had 8 in attendance, including
two new Humanists. The question arose, what is a Humanist? There are at
least 3 kinds of Humanists. What kind of Humanists are we? Maybe, in the
interest of diversity this is something we should not specialize in.
Yet, there is something our FreeThinker group has in common,
consensus. I recall a meeting last winter in which we had to make some
decisions. What impressed me most about the meeting were the questions I
heard before a decision was made: “Are there any objections?” “Are we all
in agreement?”
More recently, at the last meeting, I heard FreeThinkers say no
less than 3 times, “We do things by consensus.” Consensus is my ideal.
My inspiration comes from “The Dawn of Everything” p. 73:
“Europeans learned from (Native) Americans about the connection
between reasoned debate, personal freedoms, and the refusal of arbitrary
power.”
I also think it appropriate for all attendees to make a statement
in the Minutes.
